The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) recently announced its partnership with UNC Chapel Hill’s Carolina Digital Library and Archives to digitize its massive craftsman and object card catalogs, as well as the MESDA journal. Over 80,000 craftsmen and artisans are documented in the Craftsman Database, which is now available online!

The Craftsman Database is incredibly valuable to historians and genealogists alike, since you can search by name, trade, dates, geographic location, and keyword. A search for “slave” yields over 8,000 results! You can also search the MESDA/Old Salem Museum & Gardens Library catalog of over 19,000 items.
