As of September 21, 2009, the North Carolina Room will be relocated to the Ground Floor of the Central Library. To make this possible, the North Carolina Room will be CLOSED from Wednesday, September 16 through Sunday, September 20. The entire Central Library will be CLOSED on Friday, September 18. During this time we will not be providing service to the public. Our phone number and website will remain the same following the move.

Here is what we are gaining:

  • Double the shelf space for the North Carolina Room collection
  • Several special collection areas including: children’s materials, oversized books, genealogy help, city directories, and legal reference
  • Federal and state documents will become part of the North Carolina Room collection
  • All FCPL microform collections and equipment will be housed together for reading, printing, and saving digital copies of microfilm and microfiche.

Here is how the use of NC Room computers will change:

  • All public computer workstations in the North Carolina Room will be restricted to activities associated with the North Carolina Room. This includes genealogy, North Carolina history, and government documents research. All other computer work must be done on the First Floor or Second Floor.
  • A public access digitization center will be added to the North Carolina Room, allowing customers to scan and digitize local history and genealogy documents, photographs, audio and video.

We look forward to serving you in our new home!
