On December 10, 2009, I posted some information about a Big Winston overalls item that we have in our collection. At the time, I speculated that it might be a paperweight.

Well, thanks to reader John Ball, I now know what it really is…a whetstone for pocket knives. It makes sense. You hand these out to influential farmers, who one day sit down at the country store to do a little whittling, take out the whetstone to sharpen their knife and somebody says “What is that, J.B.?” So J.B. shows them and now everybody has to have some Big Winston overalls, because J.B. does.

Thank you, John, for enlightening us. We always welcome the expertise of our readers. I figure that there is someone out there who knows the answer to almost any question.
