Forsyth County Genealogical Society: African American Genealogy Roadblocks, May 6

Forsyth County Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, May 6, 2014, 6:30 PM, at Forsyth County Public Library – Central (Auditorium), 660 West 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. 

Social at 6:30, program at 7:00.  The meeting is free and open to the public.

 

James E. Gist will present a program on “African American Genealogy Roadblocks”.

 

Mr. Gist, a Winston-Salem native, retired from the US Air Force and Lockheed Martin Aerospace.  His interest in genealogy began almost 30 years ago when he found an old family Bible and wanted to “fill in the blanks” with his grandmother’s help.  His family database has grown to over 2400  names.  He is looked to as a family historian by the Gist families of Chester Co., SC.  He recently developed and presented a class in African American Genealogy at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where he is chair of the Computer Lab Ministry.
