Yes, it is true. The North Carolina Room and the rest of the Central Library will close on Oct. 15 so the building may be prepared for a major renovation. The project will take at least 2 and a half years.
The North Carolina Room will reopen in November in a smaller, temporary location in the Forsyth County Government Center at 201 N. Chestnut Street. We will be on the second floor, next to the Register of Deeds office. Core materials such as city directories, microfilm of local newspapers and some genealogy and history books will be available onsite.. Other materials may be available upon request. Our phone number, 336-703-3070 will remain the same. Access to Ancestry and other online resources will be available. They are also always available at the other nine branches of the library.
The Photograph Librarian will continue to have access to the photograph collection and will provide the same services as before.
We look forward to seeing you in our temporary home. 2017 will be here before we know it.
The library’s website is always open for more information and for many services.
