Farewell, Fam

Today, we mourn the loss of the man who for many was Winston-Salem. Fam Brownlee passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3. He was a historian, storyteller, photographer, and teacher, to name a few. If you were lucky enough to have met Fam, you knew he was one-of-a-kind. During his 14 years of employment at the Forsyth County Public Library, he was often called upon to provide insight into our local history through our blog, media appearances, and patron questions. He leaves behind a long legacy of Winston-Salem knowledge through his books, blog posts, Facebook page, and people’s memories. For us in the North Carolina Collection, he leaves behind many laughs, a grumpy charm we’ll miss, and stories to last a lifetime. Rest in peace, Fambrough LaMonte Brownlee, Jr.
